Coffee calls for a cigarette
1942
Info

I try to forget the days that are gone,
telling my heart not to cry,
but after dinner I just can’t go on,
and here’s the simple reason why:
Coffee calls for a cigarette,
a cigarette calls for something to drink,
and something to drink calls for music and dancing,
and that means romancing with you again.
Every night when my work is done
and the horizon welcomes the sun,
I’m right in the mood for some coffee, a cig’rette,
a drink and some music with you.
Coffee I’ve got in my kitchen
and my cigarette-case is full.
Music and drinks I could always get,
but what good would it do when I’m still missing you.
Yet, if you came to my heart some day,
I’d be so busy making you stay,
so I’d have to give up the coffee, the cigarette,
the drinks and the music for you.
